Ioannis Stamou is a self-taught photographer with over 25 years of experience in capturing life’s tonalities — both in light and in spirit. With a strong foundation in visual storytelling, he explores the subtle rhythm and musicality of human presence, urban stillness, and the textures of lived experience.
His artistic vision is centered on the concept of visual soundscapes — the idea that photography can render a chromatic or monochrome timbre of life, much like a melody unfolding in silence.
He has been based in Madrid since 2003, while regularly moving between Greece and Spain. In earlier years, he worked consistently as a staff photographer for the Greek magazine Ideas and Solutions for the Home. In 2007, his travel photography was showcased in a solo exhibition at Fnac Callao in Madrid, titled Greek Week: The Greece of the Aegean — a tribute to the timeless light and geometric purity of the Cyclades.
Living with his wife and son in Madrid, he continues to draw inspiration from the city’s vibrant energy and visual richness. Immersed in a culture of warmth, elegance, and ever-shifting scenes, he feels constantly invited to capture the fleeting and the eternal. Despite the passing years, he still experiences the same ‘erotic’ pull toward the journey of visual narration — the same creative tension, and the same hunger for discovery that sparked his beginnings.
Alongside his photographic practice, Ioannis is a multidisciplinary designer, working across branding, visual identity, and digital experiences. He holds studies in Marketing, Management, and Public Relations, as well as a Master’s degree in Graphic Design with a direction in Fine Arts.
If he had to introduce himself in one line, it would be this:
“I’m a photographer & multidisciplinary designer creating thoughtful imagery, brand identities and digital experiences.”
